Postdoctoral Fellow

Sophie Ruehr

Sophie Ruehr is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carnegie Science. Using remote sensing, biophysical modeling, and machine learning approaches, her research quantifies the effect of climate extremes and management practices on carbon and water fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems. Her work aims to support climate-smart adaptation and mitigation strategies in water-stressed regions globally, with a focus on agroecosystems. Sophie holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from UC Berkeley.

Visiting Student

Luxi Cheng

Luxi Cheng is a Visiting Student at the Carnegie Institution for Science. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Agricultural Resources and Environment at Zhejiang University. Her research focuses on strategies for reducing nitrogen emissions and greenhouse gases across the entire livestock production chain. During her visiting time at Carnegie, she will explore the nexus between livestock production, water and energy, aiming to develop sustainable livestock production strategies.

Visiting Student

Fiona Kriwan

Fiona is a Visiting Student at the Carnegie Institution for Science. Fiona is pursuing her Master’s in Energy Science and Technology at ETH Zurich (Switzerland), having completed a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering. Her studies focus on decarbonization pathways and low-carbon technologies. For her Master’s thesis, she is investigating the potential of water production through co-adsorption in direct air capture processes, and assessing how this integrated approach could both support the synthesis of low-carbon fuels and address challenges at the water-energy nexus.
